Team Spotlight - Caroline Shafer

Where are you located?

I work in IBACOS’s Pittsburgh office in Pennsylvania. Originally from the Philadelphia area, I moved to Pittsburgh 8.5 years ago to study Computer Science at the University of Pittsburgh. I loved the city so much, I never left! Although, my loyalty still remains with the Philadelphia Eagles 🦅 (to the chagrin of my colleagues).

Tell us about your career journey that led to IBACOS.

After graduating from Pitt, I began working as a Demo Solutions Specialist for SAP, a German software company that I had interned with during my undergrad. Through this role, I discovered a passion for demonstrating software products and helping clients use their product(s) to the best of their ability. In the Summer of 2024, I began my role with IBACOS as the Software Implementation Specialist.

Favorite thing about your job?

Having previously worked for a company with over 100,000 employees, being one of 23 at IBACOS allows me to actually see how my contributions make a difference. Everyday I'm able to work with individual users, divisions, and entire companies to help them utilize all of our software's capabilities. Working closely with IBACOS's software development team allows me to advocate for user's wants and needs, coming directly from those in the field. I'm able to combine my passions of software with my love of helping others. Additonally, working at IBACOS has given me something I lacked at my previous job: a community. My previous roles have been completely remote, solely communicating with coworkers through video calls (with everyone having their camera off). Comparing this to IBACOS, where I'm able to go into an office to collaborate with my colleagues and friends daily, things couldn't be more different! The stereotypical workplace cliché is actually true here; we really are a family.

Now, tell us something you do in your free time.

When I'm not working, I like to keep myself busy with hobbies like baking, reading, and recently, paint by numbers. Some of my favorite things to bake (and my IBACOS team member's favorite to eat) are Cinnamon Rolls, Sourdough, Tiramisu, and Apple Crumble. I've been reading a lot of science fiction lately including anything Michael Crichton, the Dune series, and Ray Bradbury, of course.
